Caparulo, a Certified Culinary Professional, who will discuss the preparation of her book Great Dishes from New Jersey’s Favorite Restaurants. In preparation for her book Mrs. Caparulo has persuaded New Jersey’s favorite chefs to share their kitchen secrets with her.   She will offer anecdotes about the restaurants, the chefs, and her own experiences in their kitchens in a lively and informative presentation.

Have you wondered if that old book that’s been sitting in your attic is worth something?  Now is your chance to find out.  Jesse Mann of the Chatham Bookseller will present a program on the fundamentals of book collecting and then will appraise books brought in by audience members.  Please only one item per attendee.

Hercules Explosion                                   April 12, 2005 at 7PM
 On September 12 in 1940 a series of explosions rocked the Hercules Powder Company in Kenvil.  Throughout the town, windows were blown out, furniture knocked over and power and telephone lines came down.  The explosion was felt in Poughkeepsie and recorded on the seismograph at Fordham University.  The accident ultimately took the lives of 52 employees.  On Tuesday, April 12, 2005 Joanne Gardner, President of the Mount Arlington Historical Society and a witness to the events, will tell the story of this tragic day.

Nearly 70% of reported sexual assaults occur to children age 17 and younger.  On Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 7PM, at the Roxbury Public Library the Tellus Center of Morristown will present a program discussing childhood sexual abuse.  7 Steps to Protecting Our Children is designed to help responsible adults recognize and prevent abuse.  The program will explain the risks children face, how to talk about sexual abuse and how to get involved in preventing child sexual abuse.

David Moskowitz, the driving force behind the creation of the East Brunswick Butterfly Park, will present a talk on butterflies. Learn about the great monarch butterfly migration to Mexico, butterflies of New Jersey, gardening for butterflies and the East Brunswick Butterfly Park. Mr. Moskowitz is a Senior Vice President with EcolSciences, Inc. and has conducted wildlife studies for more than 20 years.

So what does Succasunna mean anyway?  Marge Cushing of the Roxbury Township Historical Society will answer that, and many other questions, when she presents “Back To Our Beginnings” at the Roxbury Public Library.  Starting with the Lenni Lenape, she will trace the development of Roxbury and how it was affected by mining, the Morris Canal and World War II.  Complete with slides, this program is a fascinating look back at 266 years of  Roxbury History.

The Life and Works Of Leonardo Da Vinci

What is there after The Da Vinci Code?  The real story of Leonardo Da Vinci.  Art Historian Vesna Mison will present The Life and Works of Leonardo Da Vinci.  This lecture/slide show will tell the story of this artist, scientist, mathematician, musician, and engineer from his beginnings in a small village near Vinci, to his work with the famous families of Northern Italy and his rivalry with Michelangelo, to his death and the work that he left behind.  The symbolism and meaning of some of his most famous works, including The Last Supper, will be discussed as we take a detailed look at the facts behind the myth.
