COMPUTER TRAINING CENTER

The Roxbury Public Library offers adult computer classes in the new computer-training center at the library. The state grant-funded computer center contains 7 brand new state-of-the-art computers and attached printers. Students will sit at their own workstations for a truly "hands on" experience.

Classes are offered at various times during the week including nights and weekend hours. The classes last between 30 and 60 minutes and are taught by library staff and trained volunteers.  Classes are offered to adults age 18 and up.

Classes for people with very little or no computer experience discuss components of the computer, mouse usage, and basic programs and functions. Introductory Internet classes explain Internet Explorer browser usage, and basic world wide web searching.

Besides Internet classes, the library offers courses on Microsoft Word and Excel, and how to use the library’s on-line periodical and newspaper databases and the library catalog. Patrons are also welcome to use various tutorial software packages on word processing and spreadsheet programs that are available for independent use. The computers in the training center are available to the public whenever the center is not in use for classes.

Classes are open to anyone, 18 years or older, who is a Roxbury Library cardholder. Some prior mouse experience is required for some classes. Registration is required.  Call (973) 584-2400 for further information.
