YOUTH SERVICES SUPERVISING LIBRARIAN. The Roxbury Public Library is seeking to fill this full-time (35 hour/week) position, job title Supervising Librarian (grade 22).  Application review begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES include planning and providing programming for youth, such as story time sessions, crafts, and other special events; providing reading guidance and reference services; coordinating selection of materials for the youth services department; visiting local schools to present programs and book talks and serving as a host for school visits.  This person serves as part of the library management team, both in day-to-day operations, and planning and goal-setting activities. 

REQUIREMENTS are a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university with a special emphasis on youth services.  Position will requires flexibility in working some evening and weekend hours. 

QUALIFIED applicant must have three years experience as a youth services librarian; one year experience as a library supervisor; wide knowledge of children’s and young adult books, authors, and reference sources; experience in collection development for youth; experience working with children; ability to effectively use computer resources, effective written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills. 

RESPONSIBILITIES include planning and implementing services and programs to youth and families, including reference/reader's advisory services and story times as well as special programs, such as a summer reading.  The position is also responsible for cooperating between area schools and the library, providing publicity; preparing bibliographies and displays; supervising staff and volunteers; and preparing statistical, service, and development reports. 

SALARY & BENEFITS  Consideration given for experience & qualifications, preferring a minimum of three years in youth services and one year supervisory.  Minimum for salary range is $47,390/year.  Excellent benefits package includes health insurance, pension plan, and vacation benefits.  Preference given to applications received before May 4, 2008.
